Phase 2 of the new Heritage Marketplace in downtown Gilbert begins picking up its pace today with the opening of Clever Koi, the first expansion of the popular Asian restaurant and craft cocktail bar in central Phoenix.

The new location features the same menu of executive chef Jared Porter‘s modern twists on classic Asian dishes as the original, which opened in 2013.

That means four types of steamed buns ($4 each), four kinds of dumplings (four for $9), four rice bowls ($10-$15), and seven noodle dishes ($10-$16.50).

The bar offers 22 specialty cocktails (including classic tiki drinks), 10 wines by the glass or bottle, 19 craft beers (four on tap), and sake.

Happy hour specials, available 2-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday, include $4 draft beers, $7 glasses of wine, $7-$10 cocktails, and $6-$10 small plates.

Clever Koi’s open floor plan includes a 62-seat dining room and a smaller bar-dining area. Three huge, fiery woks are the focal point of an exhibition kitchen.

A sliding window in the glass front façade leads to a 40-seat patio on Gilbert Road.

Clever Koi will be open 2-9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, 2-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday, and 2-6 p.m. Sunday.

Heritage Marketplace’s second phase kicked off last month with the opening of Even Stevens. Coming in the next two months: Sushi Brokers, Farm & Craft, and Grubstak.

Phase 1, which wrapped up in May, included Zinburger, Barrio Queen, Pomo Cucina & Pizzeria, Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles, and Nico.
