Opening Tuesday: Brazilian steakhouse Rodizio Grill at Dana Park in Mesa

Utah-based Rodizio Grill, a chain of Brazilian steakhouses, makes its Arizona debut Tuesday at Dana Park in Mesa.

It takes over the stand-alone building formerly occupied by TQLA, which closed in August, and, before that, Southwest chophouse Sautée.

Founded in 1995, Rodizio Grill lays claims to being the first Brazilian “churrasco” steakhouse in the United States. It offers rotisserie-grilled meats carved tableside by traditionally dressed ‘‘gauchos’’ (South American cowboys).

Beside a dozen types of beef, pork, and poultry, the menu has two Brazilian side dishes – pão de queijo (cheese bread) and banana fritas (cinnamon-glazed bananas) – a gourmet salad bar, and a full bar.

Rodizio Grill, 1840 S. Val Vista Drive (map), will be open for dinner at 5 p.m. daily through Nov. 23.

Beginning Nov. 25, hours will be 5-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday, and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday.
