Barnone, the latest addition to Joe Johnston‘s Agritopia development on the northwest corner of Higley and Ray in Gilbert, celebrates its official grand opening today.
The refurbished barn from Johnson’s former family farm now houses a dozen businesses that make and sell handcrafted goods, including a brewery, a winery, and two small restaurants.
12 West Brewing dedicates a quarter of its 1,000 square feet to a 1-barrel brewing system, although head brewer Noel Garcia and partner Bryan McCormick also have a production facility in northeast Mesa.
Look for a half-dozen beers on tap this week; eventually there will be 12. A small bar and communal seating can accommodate 46 people.
Garage East is a partnership between Brian and Megan Ruffentine from Gilbert and Todd and Kelly Bostock from southern Arizona’s Dos Cabezas WineWorks.
The 1,200-square-foot winery and bar makes and sells a half-dozen varietals – all made with grapes from the Wilcox and Sonoita regions – under the Garage East brand.
Fire & Brimstone is a wood-fired restaurant from Johnston’s son James. The 750-square-foot eatery isn’t quite fully operational, but will be offering samples today and Wednesday.
The small menu features salads, pizzas, and pitas made with fire-roasted meats and produce. A counter and two community tables provide indoor seating.
Uprooted Kitchen is a self-described ‘‘plant-based eatery’’ from Chad and Erin Romanoff, who operated a food truck by the same name from 2012 until earlier this year.
An almost entirely vegan menu will be served for breakfast and lunch. Like Fire & Brimstone, it will have a BYOB license, allowing customers to consume alcohol from home, 12 West, or Garage East after noon.
Patio seating also will be available for customers of all four businesses.
Barnone (map) is located just west of two other Agritopia restaurants, Joe’s Farm Grill and The Coffee Shop.
