Lochiel Brewing, Mesa’s 4th craft brewery, opens near Superstition Springs mall

Lochiel Brewing, a craft brewery and taproom named for owner Ian Cameron’s ancestral home in Scotland, opened Tuesday near the Superstition Springs Center mall in east Mesa.

The brewery already has six of its own malt-forward beers on tap, including its flagship Scotch Ale. Others are an ESB, a porter, a mild, a golden ale, and an Irish red. Guest beers fill out the rest of the 10 taps.

All beers are available in 10- and 16-ounce pours. The best deal is a flight of four 5-ounce samples for $5.

The 2,900-square-foot industrial space includes an eight-seat bar, two large TVs, and 10 tables ranging from two-tops to an eight-person.

For now, Lochiel has no room for a kitchen but does sell small, prepackaged snacks like chips and popcorn. Cameron plans to eventually expand into the 3,500-square-foot space next door.

LochielCameron020117Cameron (pictured) has been a home brewer for 15 years, and spent the past few years as a part-time volunteer at East Valley breweries like The Perch.

As far as I’ve been able to research, he is the first deaf owner of a U.S. craft brewery.

‘‘Beer-wise, it improves my sense of taste and smell, and that translates to a much better beer quality,’’ he told MXSW last year. ‘‘Lose a sense, the others improve.’’

Growler fills and 32-ounce crowlers are available for those who want beer to-go.

Lochiel’s hours are 1-8 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
