La Calabria, a much-missed mom-and-pop Italian restaurant that closed in 2015, is reopening at a new location on the southwest corner of Val Vista and Williams Field in Gilbert.

The new location, across the parking lot from The Whining Pig and two doors down from High Tide Seafood, is about a mile away from its original location on the northwest corner of Val Vista and Ray.

Giovanni Spataro, the chef (from the Calabria region of Italy), and wife Clara, the hostess, closed their seven-year-old restaurant in September 2015 when the landlord refused to renew their lease.

At that time, the couple indicated they would seek a new location for the restaurant: ‘‘We’re not saying good-bye. We are saying, ‘Till we meet again!’’’

Judging by the state of construction, the new location won’t be opening for a few months.
