AZ Food Crafters features seasonal Hatch green chile hand pies & more

It’s the annual Hatch green chile season at AZ Food Crafters, and the Chandler hand pie shop and cafe is offering a variety of chile-based empanadas, stews, soups, and other dishes.

The items are available at the cafe, located on the southeast corner of Alma School and Ray, or at Valley farmers markets on weekends. They can be purchased ready to eat, or frozen to bring home.

There are three savory hand pies (empanadas):

  • Hatch Green Chile Pork: Their best-seller the past four years.
  • Hatch Green Chile Chicken: All the flavor with less guilt.
  • Hatch Green Chile & Cheese Relleno: Fire roasted green chilies and cheese.

There also is a dessert (sweet) hand pie:

  • Green Chile & Apple Hand Pie: Fire-roasted Hatch green chilies, Granny Smith apples, nutmeg, ginger, and allspice sauteed in a splash of butter and stuffed into a flaky cheddar cheese crumb crust.
