Gyro worship: A Taste of Greece festival in Chandler Sept. 29-Oct. 1

The fall edition of the twice-a-year A Taste of Greece festival returns to St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church (map) in Chandler this weekend.

The three-day event features Greek food and drink, music, dancing, and retail goods. Hours are 5-10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday.

An indoor dining hall will offer Greek-style chicken dinners, lamb shank dinners. pastito, moussaka, spanakopita, and dolmathes. Outdoor food stations will be serving chicken and lamb gyros, Greek sausages, Greek fries, saganaki, and barbecue lamb.

Among the pastries for sale: baklava, koulourakia (pictured above), kourambiedes, melomakarona, ravani, karothopita, galaktoboureko, paximadia, and tsourekia.

Beverages will include Greek coffee, ouzo, and Metaxa. American coffee, beer, and wine also will be available.

Admission is $3 per person, and kids under 12 get in free. You can receive a free admission if you like the festival’s Facebook page (click the link on its website).

There will be free parking and a shuttle bus at nearby Seton High.
