After four years in Phoenix, My Nana’s Best Tasting Salsa Challenge returns to the East Valley this weekend. The 34th annual festival will take place 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, April 14, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at Sloan Park in Mesa.
Attendees will be able to sample more than 100 different salsas as restaurants, businesses, and individuals compete in three categories – Hot, Mild, and Anything Goes – at the Chicago Cubs’ spring-training stadium.
Admission is $15 ($12 if tickets are purchased by midnight Friday) and includes all-you-can-eat chips and salsa. Children under 12 get in free if accompanied by an adult.
There’s also a $55 VIP ticket that includes VIP tent, food, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
Besides salsas, the outdoor festival will feature live music, a margarita contest, and beer. More than 20,000 people are expected to attend.
Prior to its four-year run at Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix, the Challenge was held for several years at Tempe Beach Park.
