Snakes & Lattes, a small Canadian chain of ‘‘board game cafes,’’ will make its American debut this summer in the former Z’Tejas building in downtown Tempe.
Although some East Valley coffeehouses and beer and wine bars offer a small selection of board games, Snakes & Lattes has a library of more than 800 table-top games.
Its staff includes ‘‘game gurus,’’ who can recommend and teach board games to patrons.
(There’s a fee – $8 per person in Toronto – for one-visit unlimited access to the game library. The money helps replace damaged or worn-out games.)
A full kitchen provides a menu of game-friendly food items like sandwiches and salads that can be eaten with one hand, while the bar serves craft beer, wine, cocktails, and coffee drinks.
Snakes & Lattes launched in 2010 and now has three locations, all in Toronto.
The Tempe location, on Sixth Street west of Mill, is expected to open in late summer.
