After beginning work in 2016 and undergoing one of the longest restaurant remodelings in memory, Jimmy T’s Holy Crab finally is open on the northwest corner of Alma School and Ray in Chandler.

It takes over a 5,752-square-foot building that formerly housed the China King restaurant. New is a 1,200-square-foot front patio, which has its own huge grill (pictured above).

Holy Crab is a concept similar to popular local Cajun seafood chain Angry Crab Shack, but with more of a neighborhood sports bar vibe. (There are lots of big-screen TVs and nine beers on tap).

The launch menu is limited to build-your-own seafood plates. Choices include shrimp, lobster, king crab legs, snow crab legs, Dungeness crab, clams, mussels, and (seasonal) crawfish.

After choosing your seafood, you can select either Louisiana Cajun Traditional or Jimmy T’s Butter ’n’ Garlic Blend seasonings, and then a spice level – mild, medium, hot, or ‘‘yikes!’’

Side options include corn, sausage, potatoes, garlic bread, broccoli, and steamed rice.

The entire menu will be expanded in the coming weeks, when a happy hour and live music also will be added.

Jimmy T’s Holy Crab’s hours are 3-11 p.m. daily for the bar and 4:30-11 p.m. daily for the dining room.

Restaurant management is urging diners to make reservations so the staff can provide timely seating and service.
