Ted’s Hot Dogs’ Chandler location has been delayed, but construction planned for this fall

The most frequent question I’ve gotten in 2018 is, ‘‘What happened to the Ted’s Hot Dogs location that was supposed to open in Chandler?’’

The good news is it’s still in the works for the northwest corner of Gilbert and Germann. It’s just gonna take a little longer than planned.

The iconic Tempe eatery announced in early 2017 that it would renovate its longtime home on the southwest corner of McClintock and Broadway in June, then open a second location in Chandler by Christmas.

Almost immediately, though, the family-owned restaurant ran into delays, was forced to change contractors, then ran into even more delays.

Long story short: The Tempe remodeling finally was completed, but the delays pushed back the timetable for the Chandler location by a year or so.

According to Ted’s management, the new target for breaking ground in Chandler is this fall, with the opening sometime early next year.

The stand-alone Chandler location, which will be built in front of the Party City store, just west of Chase Bank, will feature online ordering and a drive-through – both firsts for Ted’s.

Besides a variety of hot dogs, Ted’s menu also offers sausages, burgers, and chicken breasts – all cooked over hardwood charcoal.

A western New York-based chain launched in 1929, Ted’s opened its sole out-of-state location in Tempe when Spiro Liaros, son of company founder Theodore Liaros, retired to Arizona in 1983.

Spiro Liaros passed away in 2013.
