In wake of Humble Pie’s opening, Sauce Pizza & Wine closes in south Chandler

No surprise here: Sauce Pizza & Wine has closed after a 10-year run at the Downtown Ocotillo development on the southwest corner of Dobson and Queen Creek roads in south Chandler.

In 2015, the Sam Fox concept – then with nine locations – was sold to a group headed by Ra Sushi co-founder Scott Kilpatrick.

The new owners have expanded the concept to 17 locations – well, 16 now – including recent openings in Gilbert and Queen Creek.

For years, Fox sources told me the Chandler location was the poorest performing Sauce.

A closure seemed imminent when another wine-focused pizzeria – Humble Pie – opened nearby last week.
