Pizza a Metro, a well-regarded Italian restaurant in Phoenix, has closed its 4-year-old second location on the southwest corner of Greenfield and Warner in Gilbert.
Owner-chef Maurizio Benforte introduced his cuisine to Phoenix diners in 2007, earning an average Yelp rating of 4.5 stars despite a run-down strip-mall location.
In July 2014 he took over the Gilbert building that formerly was home to wood-oven pizza kitchen Via and, before that, Tutti Santi.
The Gilbert restaurant had nearly the same menu as the Phoenix original, but its oven could not accommodate the meter-long pizzas that gave the restaurant its name.
