Texas-based R Taco to make AZ debut next to SanTan Village in Gilbert

RTaco080918xR Taco, a Dallas-based chain of fast-food taco shops, will make its Arizona debut this fall on the southwest corner of Santan Village Parkway and Williams Field near the SanTan Village shopping center in Gilbert.

The concept originally was called Rusty Taco, but recently rebranded with what it considers a more franchise-friendly name. Many fans still call it by the original name.

The restaurant’s menu offers more than a dozen street tacos, including picadillo (spicy ground beef), beef and chicken fajitas, BBQ brisket, anchiote pork, grilled shrimp, and fried chicken.

There also are eight breakfast tacos that are served all day.

Unlike most fast-food restaurants, R Taco serves beer and margaritas.

Rusty Taco was founded by namesake Rusty Fenton and Steve Dunn in 2010. The chain currently has 27 locations in six states.

In 2014, a majority share was bought by Buffalo Wild Wings, which in turn was bought by Arby’s Restaurant Group earlier this year.

The exact date of the Gilbert opening has not been announced.
