Rejoice, slider fans – iconic fast-food chain White Castle is coming to the Valley next year

White Castle, the iconic burger joint and the country’s oldest fast-food chain, is coming to Arizona.

The chain announced its first family-owned location west of the Mississippi River would open at The Block at Pima Center on the northwest corner of Via De Ventura and Loop 101 in Scottsdale.

The bad news: The opening is scheduled for late 2019 – meaning you’re going to have to wait for more than a year.

White Castle was founded by Billy Ingram and Walt Anderson in Wichita, Kan., in 1921.

Over nearly a century, it has built a cultlike for its small square hamburgers, known as sliders, even inspiring the 2004 movie ‘‘Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.’’

The chain, now based in Columbus, Ohio, has more than 400 locations in 13 states, most of them in the Midwest and on the East Coast.
