Rodeo Ranch country bar opens in former Gringo-Star space in downtown Tempe

Rodeo Ranch, a country-themed bar with a mechanical bull, has opened on the southeast corner of Mill and Fifth Street in downtown Tempe.

It takes over 3,000 square feet on the three-story building’s ground floor that formerly was home to Gringo-Star Street Bar.

Besides the mechanical bull, the bar’s attractions include a dance floor with DJ and light show, arcade and sports games, and 19 TVs that are 70 inches or larger.

Rodeo Ranch opens at 3 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. weekends.

Rodeo Ranch is part of a Texas-based restaurant group that includes Chubby’s and Varsity Tavern.

Chubby’s, a Texas barbecue restaurant, is scheduled to join Rodeo Ranch on the ground floor late this year.

Varsity Tavern, an upscale sports bar,  is expected to open on the second and third floors (formerly home to Hooter’s) in September.
