(Note: This post has been updated to reflect the Chandler roundup will take place twice each month – once at Shoppers Supply and once at a second site.)
Chandler is getting a food truck roundup. Yet again.
AZ Festivals, which organizes weekly roundups in Gilbert, Mesa, and Queen Creek, announced Chandler Feastival will make its debut Sunday, Sept. 9.
The trucks will set up in the parking lot of Shoppers Supply on the northwest corner of Alma School and Queen Creek in south Chandler.
According to organizers, the roundup will take place once a month at Shoppers Supply. There also will be a second site, yet unannounced, in Chandler, also used once a month. So there will be two roundups each month.
Chandler has a mixed history with weekly food truck roundups.
A group of Chandler residents led by Brian Denham launched the city’s first weekly roundup at Downtown Ocotillo in April 2015, but the event quickly outgrew the location and was suspended after just four weeks.
In June 2015, it relaunched at Shoppers Supply but was shut down again after its 60-day permit expired in August. Organizers learned a permanent permit would take up to six months to get approval.
The event made another short-lived attempt – this time at Rawhide Western Town – in February 2016.
