Congrats to Pedal Haus Brewery and Saddle Mountain Brewing, which won gold medals Saturday at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival in Denver.

Both are repeat medalists at the world’s largest commercial beer competition, which judged a total of 8,496 beers submitted by 2,404 breweries in 102 style categories.

Pedal Haus took the gold medal in the Belgian-style witbier category with its Biére Blanche. Last year, the downtown Tempe brewery won a silver for its Light Lager.

Saddle Mountain, from Goodyear in the West Valley, saw its Taildragger Clan-Destine (pictured) earn its second straight gold medal in the Scottish-style ale category.

No other Arizona breweries earned medals this year. Here’s a look at how the state has fared at GABF in recent years:

  • 2018: 2 gold
  • 2017: 1 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze
  • 2016: 1 silver
  • 2015: 2 gold, 2 bronze
  • 2014: 1 bronze
  • 2013: 1 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze
  • 2012: 1 gold, 1 silver
  • 2011: 1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze
  • 2010: 2 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze

California led all states this year with 72 medals, followed by Colorado with 30. Among our other neighbors, New Mexico collected six, Nevada four, and Utah two.
