Who knew Chicago was famous for Mexican food?
It is, at least according to loyal patrons of Taqueria Louie, which recently was opened by ‘‘two guys from Chicago’’ on the northwest corner of McClintock and Elliot in south Tempe.
Taqueria Louie’s menu focuses on tacos ($2.25), and to a lesser extent, burros ($5.99-$7.99), but there are a few other items, including nachos, quesadillas, a torta (pictured above), and bistec a la Mexicana (braised beef in a tomato-and-chile sauce).
Two kinds of pozole, green and red, are offered on Fridays and Saturdays.
All items come from what the restaurant describes as ‘‘generational family recipes from Guanajuato and San Luis Potosi, Mexico.’’
Taqueria Louie is open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
