Now open: Korean shabu-shabu restaurant Jin Shabu in Chandler

East Valley residents no longer have to travel to California to enjoy Korean-style shabu-shabu. Jin Shabu just opened in the Lee Lee International Supermarket plaza on the northeast corner of Dobson and Warner in Chandler.

For those unfamiliar with shabu-shabu, it’s basically a hot pot dish in which the diner cooks each ingredient and compiles the dish at his or her table.

Shabu-shabu is Mongolian in origin, but styles vary between Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, and other versions.

The Korean version of Jin Shabu usually means thinly sliced beef (other meats also are available) that is steamed and cooked in a spicy broth.

Diners can choose from a traditional hiroki (Japanese cypress) box of vegetables and other side items, or choose their own at a buffet. There’s also a sauce bar to create your own sauce.

If it all sounds kinda complicated, don’t worry. Jin Shabu’s friendly staff will walk novices through the process.

All-you-can-eat lunch is $16.99 per person from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., while all-you-can-eat dinner is $26.99 (3-9 p.m.). Children ages 5-10 are charged $9.99.

Besides water, juices, and soft drinks, beverage options include sake, soju, Asian beers, wine, and Korean cocktails.

Jin Shabu is open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.
