Closing Oct. 28: Gino’s East in east Phoenix

Gino’s East, one of several iconic Chicago-based pizzerias that migrated to the Valley in recent years, announced it will close Oct. 28 after just 18 months in business.

No reason was given for the impending closure.

Gino’s East opened in April 2017 in a new 4,400-square-foot-building on the site of the former Hazelwoods First Place on the northeast corner of 36th Street and Indian School in east Phoenix.

Buddyz A Chicago Pizzeria began the Windy City deep-dish influx into the Valley when it came to Queen Creek in 2013. It’s since added locations in Gilbert and Ahwatukee.

Lou Malnati’s arrived in midtown Phoenix in 2016 and now has a second location in east Phoenix and another planned in Scottsdale. Giordano’s opened in the West Valley in late 2016.

The Phoenix Business Journal reports a new concept from Phoenix-based hospitality group Barter & Shake will take over the Gino’s East location.
