Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom in Mesa to close Thursday after 16 years in business

By Jess Harter Monday, December 3, 2018

Just 10 days, MXSW broke the news that Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom, which once had several locations in the East Valley but had dwindled to just one, was opening a new location in the former El Palacio Mexican restaurant in Chandler.

It looks like that location soon will be the only one.

The existing Old Chicago on the southwest corner of Alma School and U.S. 60 in Mesa has announced on Facebook it will close Thursday after 16 years in business:

‘‘Well folks, the time has come to say our goodbyes. This location will be permanently closing on Thursday, December 6th at 6pm. Our store has prided itself on all of our guests who became family. We considered ourselves the new age “Cheers” bar, where everyone knew your name. We would be honored if you came by one last time before the close to participate in our silent auction.’’

The franchisee of the upcoming Chandler location is a different person than the franchisee of the Mesa location.

CraftWorks Restaurants & Breweries, the parent company of Old Chicago, also owns the Gordon Biersch and Rock Bottom brewery restaurant chains.
