Now open: Tacos Tijuana in southeast Mesa

Tacos Tijuana, a small but celebrated chain of taquerias in the West Valley, has opened its first East Valley outpost on the southwest corner of Greenfield and U.S. 60 in southeast Mesa.

The building formerly was home to Pita Pit, which closed earlier this year.

Tacos Tijuana was launched as a semi-permanent Peoria food truck in 2016 and opened its first bricks-and-mortar restaurant in Glendale last December.

Last month, it added a semi-permanent food truck in Surprise.

Like the three westside locations, the Mesa bricks-and-mortar restaurant will offer two choices of meat: grilled carne asada (beef) or al pastor (pork) sliced off a rotating spit.

The simple menu:

• Taco: A housemade corn tortilla, choice of beef or pork, onion, cilantro, tomato sauce, and guacamole;
• Flour taco: Flour tortilla, choice of meat, onion, cilantro, tomato sauce, and guacamole;
• Quesadilla: Two corn tortillas, choice of meat, cheese, onion, cilantro, tomato sauce, and guacamole;
• Tostada: Toasted corn tortilla, choice of meat, cheese, onion, cilantro, tomato sauce, and guacamole.

Tacos Tijuana is open 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
