Back in July, MXSW broke the news that Bonchon, a worldwide restaurant chain famous for its Korean-style chicken wings, would make its Arizona debut this year.
The restaurant finally has opened on the northwest corner of Kyrene and Elliot in south Tempe. The space formerly was home to America’s Taco Shop.
The fast-casual Bonchon was born in South Korea in 2002 and came to America in 2006. It now has more than 200 locations in nine countries, including 60-plus in the U.S.
The chicken wings, drumsticks, and strips are fried twice to a thin-skinned crispness. Diners have a choice of a tangy soy-and-garlic sauce or a slow-burn, hot-pepper alternative.
In addition to its award-winning chicken, Bonchon also offers a variety of Asian fusion dishes, including fried octopus dumplings, Asian sliders, bibimbap, bulogi, and Korean tacos.
A full bar offers beer, wine, cocktails, and soju.
Bonchon is open from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.
