Mac’s Broiler & Tap, once one of the East Valley’s more popular burger-and-beer bars, has closed after 14 years next to Changing Hands Bookstore on the southwest corner of McClintock and Guadalupe in south Tempe.
The bar was known for its creative weekly burger specials. It also was an early supporter of Arizona’s craft beer movement.
Mac’s heyday was nearly a decade ago, when it was sandwiched between two of the strip mall’s busiest stores – Changing Hands and Hoodlums Music & Movies. Hoodlums closed in 2012.
No reason was given for Sunday’s closure, but Mac’s seemed to be in decline in recent years.
