Flanny’s Bar & Grill in south Tempe to close Wednesday after 8 years

By Jess Harter Tuesday, February 26, 2019

Flanny’s Bar & Grill, a mainstay of the Tempe craft beer scene for the past eight years, is closing its doors Wednesday, Feb. 27.

Owner John Flanagan made the announcement on the bar’s Facebook page:

Flanny’s, located on the southeast corner of McClintock and Elliot, probably is best-known for its monthly Third Thursday tap takeovers, which typically featured a deep dive into a single brewery’s portfolio – as many as two dozen different beers.

‘‘Philly’s’’ apparently is a reference to locally owned Philly’s Sports Bar & Grill, which already has two locations in Tempe and another in Ahwatukee.
