It’s Fat Tuesday, which means it’s time for paczki. The decadent Polish pastries, similar to doughnuts, traditionally were made to use up all of the fat, sugar, eggs, and fruit in a household before Lent.
If you didn’t make your own this year, Bashas’ grocery stores are selling several types of paczki – glazed or sugared, and filled with lemon, raspberry, or custard filling – for 75 cents apiece (or $2.99 for a half-dozen) today.
Best of all, Bashas’ is donating 10% of all paczki sales today to St. Vincent de Paul, a Valley non-profit that provides individualized care, nourishment, and resources to those most in need.
Bashas’ also is selling traditional King’s Cakes – along with strands of beads and a baby, which customers can put into the cakes – for $5.99.
Liberty Market in downtown Gilbert also is selling paczki – vanilla bean or raspberry jam – today for $3.50 apiece or $39 for a dozen while supplies last.
