Sandbar Mexican Grill opens today at SanTan Village Shopping Center in Gilbert

By Jess Harter Thursday, March 7, 2019

Sandbar Mexican Grill, a beach-themed restaurant and bar, opens its third Valley location at 6 p.m. today on the southwest corner of SanTan Parkway and Williams Field in the SanTan Village Shopping Center in Gilbert.

The concept is one of several from the Scottsdale-based Evening Entertainment Group, whose portfolio also includes Bottled Blonde, RnR, Pretty Please Lounge, Stock & Stable, and Honor Amongst Thieves, among others.

EEG founders Les and Diane Corieri launched the original Sandbar near Scottsdale and Shea in Scottsdale in 2004. It closed in 2013, but by then they had opened additional locations in west Chandler (2009) and northeast Phoenix (2010).

The new Gilbert location features a colorful Mexican-style décor and more than 50 TVs for watching sports. A dog-friendly patio has private cabanas and games like ping pong, shuffleboard, air hockey, and cornhole.

The lunch-dinner menu includes 10 different kinds of tacos (you can mix and match any three for $15), burritos ($12-$14), enchiladas ($10-$13), and burgers ($13-$16).

Brunch is served on Saturdays and Sunday. Options include chilaquiles ($11), jalapeno biscuits with chorizo gravy ($11), and breakfast tacos ($11).

A half-dozen flavors of frozen margaritas, eight kinds of Mules, and specialty cocktails like jalapeno margaritas and pineapple mojitos highlight the bar offerings.

Happy hour specials on food and drink run 3-7 p.m. Mondays-Friday.
