Drunk Munk to open Thursday in former Cowboy Ciao building in Scottsdale

Drunk Munk, a tiki-themed bar and restaurant from the owners of Geisha a Go Go and the late Stingray Sushi, opens at 4 p.m. Thursday in Old Town Scottsdale.

It takes over the 4,600-square-foot building on the northeast corner of Stetson and Sixth Avenue formerly occupied by Cowboy Ciao for 21 years.

Cowboy Ciao, one of Scottsdale’s best-known restaurants, closed in October.

Longtime Scottsdale diners may recognize Drunk Munk’s ‘‘Idol of Worship’’ from when it was on display at Drift Lounge, a popular tiki bar in Old Town Scottsdale from 2002-2012.

Greg Donnally, one of Drunk Munk’s owners, also was an owner of Drift.

Drunk Munk’s signature plates are Korean short ribs, mahi-mahi, moco loco (a Hawaiian rice dish topped with a fried egg and gravy), grilled sea bass, and tomahawk steaks.

The rest of the menu includes starters, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and sushi.

The bar offers 14 ‘‘classic’’ tropical cocktails, seven frozen cocktails, six high-end rums, and three bowl cocktails that can be shared by an entire table of guests.

Beers – nine on tap, others in cans or bottles – include Kona Longboard Lager, Maui Bikini Blonde, and San Tan Mr. Pineapple.

Drunk Munk will donate a portion of Thursday’s opening-day proceeds to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. There will be food and drink specials.

To start, Drunk Munk will be open 4 p.m.-2 a.m. daily.
