Guedo’s Taco Shop, revival of Guedo’s Cantina Grille, closes after 2 years in Gilbert

Guedo’s Taco Shop, an updated version of former downtown Chandler landmark Guedo’s Cantina Grille, closed Saturday after two years on the northeast corner of Gilbert and Pecos in Gilbert.

The original Guedo’s closed in December 2015 after 30 years in business.

In February 2017, longtime customer Justin Erickson revived the concept less than four miles away with some help from former owner William “Guedo” Samora III.

In a Facebook post over the weekend, Erickson confirmed the closure:

‘‘I want to thank everyone who came in, ate, drank and enjoyed themselves. I sincerely can say we had the best regulars. However, with the wage hike, food cost hike and my age creeping up (37 on Tuesday). I didn’t have the energy to run this and my SERVPRO, at least while having the time to be a father I can be proud to say I was when my time is up.’’

Erickson indicated some parties were interested in purchasing the restaurant.
