Las Palmas in downtown Chandler postpones concept change until fall

The Chandler Yacht Club won’t be docking in downtown Chandler next month after all.

The new concept, which is replacing Las Palmas Cantina, is being postponed until the fall, according to owner Julian Wright.

‘‘After some long deliberation yesterday, our leadership team and I decided we’re better off pushing back the Chandler Yacht Club transition until after the weather cools and the construction slows down in downtown Chandler,’’ Wright says.

The change now probably will take place in October, he says.

Wright opened Las Palmas, which specializes in Mexican street-style seafood, in May 2018, then closed the restaurant after three months for a major retooling.

Last week, he announced Las Palmas would close July 20 and reopen for July 26 as Chandler Yacht Club, which he describes as ‘‘ a fun neighborhood bar with a nautical/island theme.’’

Las Palmas, which will remain open until the change, is running a number of summer specials, including reverse happy hour after 9 p.m. nightly and a Sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas.
