Now open: Highly regarded Kodo Sushi Sake in south Chandler

By Jess Harter Friday, June 28, 2019

Kodo Sushi Sake, one of the Valley’s best sushi restaurants. has opened a second location on Gilbert Road, halfway between Germann and Queen Creek roads, in south Chandler.

It takes over the former Otaku sushi restaurant, which it bought out last month.

The first Kodo opened near the 101 and Frank Lloyd Wright in north Scottsdale in 2017. It has a five-star rating on Yelp from more than 500 reviews.

Kodo’s colorful owner, Juno Parker, also has two other highly rated sushi restaurants – Harumi Sushi in downtown Phoenix and Pick N’ Roll in north Scottsdale.

All his eateries are known for using black (purple) rice, considered a healthier alternative to standard white rice.

Kodo offers two dozen specialty rolls ($10-$18), plus nigiri ($5.50-$10) and sashimi ($13-$18). Omakase, a multi-course meal of chef-chosen selections, is $39.

Bar options include several Japanese beers and 20-plus sakes.

Kodo Sushi Sake is open for lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday and for dinner from 4-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 4-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday. Closed Sunday.
