Congrats to OHSO Brewery Gilbert, which picked up a pair of medals at this year’s U.S. Open Beer Championship, which judged more than 7,000 beers from around the world.
The international event – the only professional competition also open to award-winning home brewers – was held in late June, but winners were announced today.
OHSO’s Knights of Windsor won the silver medal in the Non Whiskey Barrel Aged Beer category, and its Te Quiero took the bronze in Barrel Aged Strong Stout/Porter Specialty Beer.
Knights of Windsor, part of OHSO’s Ales from the Crypt series, is a French toast wee heavy brewed with cinnamon and vanilla. It’s aged for nine months in ex-bourbon maple syrup barrels and packs a wallop at 12.8% ABV.
Te Quiero is a Mexican chocolate stout brewed with cacao nibs, vanilla, cinnamon, and chiltepin peppers. Its ABV is 7.8%.
OHSO was the only Arizona brewery to win a medal this year. (Huss Brewing from Tempe and Grand Canyon Brewing from Williams won silver medals last year.)
Sun King Brewing from Indianapolis won three gold medals and three silver medals and was named this year’s Grand National Champion.
