OHSO Brewery launches campaign to raise suicide hotline awareness

By Jess Harter Thursday, July 18, 2019

OHSO Brewery is brewing a special beer to raise awareness for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, and owner Jon Lane is inviting other Arizona breweries, bars, and restaurants to join the effort.

The beer, which will be named 1-800-273-8255, will be released Sept. 10, which is World Suicide Prevention Day. Proceeds will go to the hotline’s local and national chapters.

‘‘This came about last year in talking with a local restaurant owner,’’ Lane says. ‘‘I know beer may not be a great vehicle for this conversation, but it is how I hope to spread the word.

‘‘Suicide is something in my restaurant/bar/brewery career has been an unfortunate constant and it is with great and terrible memories I hope to bring awareness and information to those that are struggling or have a need to talk to someone.’’

Any other brewery that wants to participate is asked to brew their own beer – or just re-label one of their existing beers – for the day. Restaurants can rename a menu item.

No donation is necessary. The goal of the campaign simply is to raise awareness.
