Cheba Hut is bringing cannabis-themed subs to downtown Chandler

Cheba Hut, a national chain of cannabis-themed sandwich shops that was founded in Tempe, is coming to downtown Chandler.

The chain’s fourth East Valley location will open in the recently closed Even Stevens sandwich shop space on the southwest corner of Arizona and Boston.

Other locations are in Mesa, Tempe, and Ahwatukee.

Cheba Hut offers a variety of ‘‘toasted’’ subs with tongue-in-cheek names like Jamaican Red, Thai Stick, and Chronic. Subs come in three sizes: nug (4 inches), pinner (6 inches), and blunt (12 inches).

The menu also offers salads, soups, snacks, and desserts.

Despite the sandwich shop’s theme, no actual cannabis products are used in the food.

Scott Jennings launched the first Cheba Hut next to ASU in 1998. The chain is now headquartered in Denver and has more than two dozen locations in eight states.

Construction has begun on the Chandler location, but no opening date has been announced.
