July 25: Meet Firestone Walker’s David Walker at The Hungry Monk

By Jess Harter Thursday, July 25, 2019

The Hungry Monk in Chandler hosts ‘‘A Visit from the Lion,’’ an evening with Firestone Walker Brewing co-founder David Walker, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 25.

Walker and brother-in-law Adam Firestone, the great-great grandson of Firestone Tire founder Harvey Firestone, started Firestone Walker in Los Olivos, Calif., in 1998 and moved it to Paso Robles, Calif., in 2001.

The brewery’s logo features a lion (representing Walker) and bear (Firestone) facing off.

The World Beer Cup, an international competition held every two years, has named Firestone Walker the world’s best mid-sized brewery four times.

The Monk will have a slew of Firestone Walker beers on tap, including these rarities:

  • 2019 Parabola: This year’s edition of the brewery’s famed Russian imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels;
  • 2014 Parabola: A single bottle of 5-year-old Parabola can cost up to $50 online (if you can find one);
  • Napa Parabola: Released in May, this new variant of Parabola was aged in French oak wine barrels;
  • 17th Anniversary Ale: A blend of 227 oak barrels containing nine different beers and released in 2014.

A special menu of Central Coast-inspired food specials also will be available.

There is no cover charge.
