Meño’s Place, a family-owned restaurant serving Mexican street food, has opened on Southern just east of Dobson, across from Mesa Community College, in west Mesa.
It takes over the former Uncle Monkey’s Bar & Grill, which closed last year.
The highlights of the menu are huaraches ($6 apiece, $8.50 meal), flattened ovals of masa topped with meat, lettuce, onions, queso, and salsa. The popular Mexico City street food is not commonly found in the U.S.
Meat choices are grilled chicken, pork or steak.
The menu also offers tortas ($6, $8.50), burritos ($6, $8.50), and hard-shell street tacos ($1.50, $8.50). Meals include chips and a drink.
Meño’s Place is open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Closed Sunday.
