Ojos Locos Sports Cantina, the ‘Mexican Hooters,’ coming to southwest Mesa

By Jess Harter Monday, August 12, 2019

Ojos Locos Sports Cantina, a Dallas-based chain of Mexican-themed sports bars, will make its Arizona debut on the southwest corner of Alma School and U.S. 60 in southwest Mesa.

It’s taking over the former Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom, which closed at the end of 2018.

Ojos Locos, which means ‘‘Crazy Eyes’’ in Spanish, is often referred to as ‘‘the Mexican Hooters.’’ Servers, known as ‘‘chicas,’’ wear cleavage-revealing tops and short skirts.

The menu features Mexican and Southwestern dishes. Beer is sold in 100-ounce pitchers called balones.

The concept was launched in Dallas in 2010 by a group including Randy DeWitt, who also founded Ojos Locos’ sibling chain Twin Peaks.

Ojos Locos’ 12th location is expected to open by the end of August.
