Phoenix Ale Brewery is being transformed into PHX Beer Co.

Goodbye, Phoenix Ale Brewery. Hello, PHX Beer Co.

Phoenix Ale Brewery, under its new ownership, is rolling out a new name, a new look, and new beers.

The brewery was founded in 2011 by Greg Fretz and George Hancock. Fretz died in 2013, Hancock in 2016.

The new name will apply to both of the brewery’s current locations:

  • The original brewery and taproom at Washington and 30th Street in east Phoenix;
  • A restaurant collaboration, formerly known as Phoenix Ale Brewery Central Kitchen, at Seventh Street and Bethany Home in north Phoenix.

Adam Wojcik, a 17-year industry veteran who most recently was a national sales rep for California-based Lagunitas Brewing, is the new brewing director.

“Phoenix is already a great beer city,’’ Wojcik says. ‘‘We’re here to add to that. We have a great team whose recipes will consistently test the boundaries and we’re excited to introduce our beers to the Valley.”

Beers will include its flagship IPA, Arizona Gold, and Orange Grove IPA.

Former NYPD Pizza CEO Richard Stark will continue to oversee Central Kitchen, which he launched in 2016 under an agreement with the brewery.

In April, Stark applied for a liquor license for another restaurant in north Scottsdale.
