Char’d Brisket Dogs + Burgers in Tempe has announced a partnership with Valley chef Jared Lupin, who has developed several new menu items for the nearly year-old concept, including:

  • The Kagogi: A hot dog topped with bulgogi (Korean BBQ beef), kimchi kraut, shaved cucumber, Gochujang mayo, green onions, and sesame seeds;
  • Southern Seoul: A beer-battered chicken sandwich with kimchee kraut, green onion, and Gochujang mayo (pictured);
  • Smashville Hottie: A beer-battered chicken sandwich with pickles, Smashville sauce, and Devil Dust;
  • Hatch’d Avocado Burger: With avocado, cheese, lettuce, jalapeno pico, and Hatch green chili crema;
  • Maui Wowie Burger: Fried Spam, cheese, caramelized pineapple, grilled onions, sidewalk egg, and Gochujang Mayo.

The new menu launches next Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Lupin, who attended the Woo song Culinary Academy in Daejeon, South Korea, rose to prominence at Down Under Wine Bar in Gilbert, where his kangaroo burger and crocodile pot stickers were featured on the Travel Channel.

He helped open Republic Ramen in Tempe, then launched his own Tempe ramen restaurant, Umami, in 2013.

“We were so impressed by Chef Lupin’s modern approach to food that we had to partner with him,’’ says Michael Zimmerman, co-CEO of Wade Foster Hospitality Group.

‘‘We look forward to the relaunching of the Char’d menu and a number of collaborations in the near future.”
