Clever Koi in downtown Gilbert closes after fire damages kitchen

By Jess Harter Thursday, August 22, 2019

Clever Koi, a popular Asian restaurant and craft cocktail bar in downtown Gilbert, suffered a kitchen fire Wednesday that has closed the business indefinitely.

Fortunately, the Heritage Marketplace restaurant, which opened in 2016, reported there were no injuries.

There’s no official word yet on how long Clever Koi will be closed, but MXSW has learned repairs may take three months or longer.

In the meantime, Clever Koi’s original location in central Phoenix remains open. Owners Joshua James and Nick Campisano also own Across the Pond in Phoenix and Fellow Osteria in Scottsdale.

Clever Koi gift cards may be used at any of three restaurants, and all are planning fundraisers for the Gilbert location.
