We finally have some news about Ilegal Modern Cocktail Kitchen, a new rooftop restaurant and bar coming to downtown Gilbert.
The unusually spelled concept, which was announced last spring, applied for a liquor license in April. Since then, however, it has remained completely quiet.
That is, until this week, when co-owner Erika Rode did a pair of interviews with local TV stations and revealed Ilegal is scheduled to open around the first of the year.
The concept is a joint project between Rode, the owner of Bitters Bar & Food in Scottsdale, and Lynne King Smith, the founder of internet ticketing platform TicketForce.
It will be located on the top floor of the three-story building between Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row and Bergies Coffee Roast House. The ground floor already is occupied by The Brass Tap.
Ilegal’s 1,500 square feet will be evenly split between an inside area and a covered patio.
The menu will feature food and drinks highlighting local ingredients like agave syrup, prickly pear fruit, and mesquite beans.
