AZ Wings, serving wings in 20-plus flavors, opens in south Chandler

AZ Wings, a fast-casual restaurant offering chicken wings in more than 20 flavors, has opened on the southeast corner of Arizona Avenue and the Santan Freeway in Chandler.

It takes over a former Subway that closed last year in the struggling Santan Gateway South shopping center.

Wings come in a choice of 14 sauces or seven dry rub flavors, the latter including ‘‘Arizona’’ and ‘‘Arizona spicy.’’

Traditional wings start at $5.99 for a half-dozen. Boneless wings start at $5.80 for five. All orders come with a side of house-made blue cheese or ranch dressing.

Besides wings, the menu offers salads, fried shrimp, fries, and honey biscuits.

A ice cream cold case has been installed but the restaurant is awaiting city approval to use it. Another future menu addition will be chicken tenders.

AZ Wings is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday, and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday.

Another AZ Wings franchise, under a different owner, closed last year in Tempe after a little more than a year in business.
