Taco Bell Cantina to take over Restaurant Mexico building on Mill Avenue

By Jess Harter Thursday, September 19, 2019

Taco Ball Cantina, the fast-food chain’s new ‘‘urban’’ design with an upscale feel, open kitchen, and alcoholic beverages, will take over the recently closed Restaurant Mexico building in downtown Tempe.

Restaurant Mexico, which opened in 1978, shut down Aug. 15 on the east side of Mill just north of Fifth Street.

The Valley got its first Taco Bell Cantina in downtown Phoenix in December. The chain hopes to open up to 50 nationwide.

The Tempe location is scheduled to open by the end of this year.
