Mr. Pancho Mexican Food, a new restaurant from the longtime head cook at Restaurant Mexico, has opened on the north side of Main Street, just west of Stapley, in Mesa.
The standalone building has been home to a series of Mexican eateries, most recently Tacos el Chico, which closed in March.
Owner Angel López worked as head cook at Restaurant Mexico in downtown Tempe from 1988 until its closure in August after 42 years.
Restaurant Mexico’s tables, chairs, and plates – and many of its most popular dishes – also have found a new home at Mr. Pancho.
The new restaurant also offers Restaurant Mexico’s former daily specials, such chile rellenos on Fridays and menudo on Sundays.
Mr. Pancho is open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
