Four months ago, MXSW broke the news that Board & Brew, a California-based chain of surfboard- and skateboard-themed sandwich shops, was coming to the East Valley.

Today, the concept makes its Arizona debut.

Board & Brew opens at 10 a.m. in the former Even Stevens sandwich shop, which closed in March, on the east side of Rural between University and Apache.

The menu offers California-style hot and cold sandwiches, the most popular of which is The Turkado, featuring turkey, jack cheese, and avocado on sourdough bread.

The eateries are known for their orange-colored sweet and sour special sauce.

There are 12 beers on tap, 11 from Arizona. The Tempe location will celebrate its opening with $3 drafts all month.

Board & Brew originated in Del Mar, near San Diego, more than 30 years ago and now has 17 locations. The other 16 are in Southern California.

Hours are 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday-Sunday.
