Cafe de Bangkok replaces longtime Mint Thai Cafe in Gilbert

Thai Mint Cafe, a family-run Gilbert mainstay for more than three decades, has been sold to new owners and renamed Café de Bangkok.

The restaurant, located in an aging strip mall on the east side of Gilbert Road about halfway between Baseline and Guadalupe, has gotten a cleaning and facelift. As its new name suggests, though, the menu remains Thai food.

There are 14 lunch specials – all $7.95 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays – such as pad Thai (pictured), pad see ew, Thai curry, and Thai fried rice. Combo versions with soup, appetizer, and a drink are $12.95.

The regular menu, available all day, is more extensive with appetizers, soups, salads, and 40-plus entrees ($7.95-$17.95), including a half-dozen Thai street noodle bowls.

Beverage options include Thai tea, boba drinks, and even ‘‘fresh whole young coconut’’ ($4.95). No alcohol is served.

Café de Bangkok is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Friday-Sunday.
