Ojos Locos, aka ‘the Mexican Hooters,’ makes AZ debut today in Mesa

Ojos Locos Sports Cantina, aka ‘‘the Mexican Hooters,’’ makes its Arizona debut tonight in the former Old Chicago Pizza building on the southwest corner of Alma School and U.S. 60 (map) in southwest Mesa.

Coincidentally, there’s an actual Hooters right across the street.

It’s the 12th location for Dallas-based Ojos Locos, which means ‘‘Crazy Eyes’’ in Spanish. Ten of those are in Texas.

Like similar ‘‘breastaurant’’ concepts like Hooters and Twin Peaks, the servers, known as ‘‘chicas,’’ wear cleavage-revealing tops and short skirts.

The menu (see it here) offers standard sports bar fare like wings, burgers, sandwiches, and tacos, but with a definite south-of-the-border emphasis.

Lunch specials starting at $7 are available from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday.

For those with big appetites, Ojos Locos has all-you-can-eat tacos for $12.99 Mondays after 6 p.m. and all-you-can-eat boneless wings for $14.99 Wednesdays after 6 p.m.

Happy hour from 2-7 p.m. Monday-Friday includes $2.99 domestic drafts and bottles and $3 house margaritas.

Ojos Locos will open at 5 p.m. today through Friday for its soft-opening week.

Lunch service will begin on Saturday.
