4 years after closing, Frasher’s Steakhouse to reopen in Scottsdale

By Jess Harter Tuesday, November 5, 2019

Frasher’s Steakhouse, a Scottsdale landmark for nearly 16 years before closing in 2015, is coming back to life.

Where: The St. Louis-style steakhouse’s original home (pictured) – the former Ambrosino’s Gourmet Italian Dining building on the southwest corner of Scottsdale and Oak – is gone, but owner George Frasher has found a new home: the former Ben & Jack’s Steakhouse.

Ben & Jack’s, located on the northwest corner of Drinkwater and Indian School, also closed in 2015. Before Ben & Jack’s, the building was an Outback Steakhouse.

Why now? ‘‘I always knew I would open again and always had my eye out for locations,’’ Frasher (pronounced like Frazier), a St. Louis native, tells MXSW.

‘‘I have always wanted to get back to Scottsdale, and I think the timing is perfect, he says. ‘‘And what a great location for Frasher’s Steakhouse!’’

Other restaurants: Frasher hasn’t been idle since 2015. Just a few months after closing the steakhouse, he opened the St. Louis-style Frasher’s Smokehouse on the northeast corner of 32nd Street and Indian School in Phoenix.

In April, he also launched Mrs. Chicken, specializing in Nashville hot chicken, about a block to the south of the barbecue joint.

When: Frasher says he’s planning a grand opening party for the new Frasher’s Steakhouse on New Year’s Eve.
