Los Dos Molinos matriarch Victoria Chavez passes away at age 85

Condolences to the family and friends of Victoria Chavez, co-founder of Los Dos Molinos. The popular Mexican restaurants announced her passing Sunday on social media:

‘‘It’s with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Chef Victoria, matriarch and founder of Los Dos Molinos. She was so many things to so many people. We will miss her very much. She is gone, but her legacy will live on forever.’’

Chavez was 85.

She and her husband, Eddie, launched Los Dos Molinos in Springerville in 1977, then moved to the Valley and opened a second restaurant in Mesa in 1984.

In 1990, they bought an adobe house in south Phoenix that formerly belonged to silent movie star Tom Mix and converted its into their flagship restaurant.

Today, three Los Dos locations remain – two in Phoenix and one in Mesa – run by their children and grandchildren.
